This exotic and ethnic one-of-a-kind necklace is chock full of African flavor! I designed this simple, but bold necklace around the gorgeous carved bone elephant . It has so much amazing detail and is a vintage piece that was given to me by one of my local customers.
The African brass beads in this necklace were individually handmade in a small Ashanti village near Kumasi, Ghana called Krofrom using traditional and very time intensive methods. The method is called “lost wax” and it consists of weaving wax "wires" into a form, investing them in clay, burning out the wax and pouring molten brass into the mold. Each mold is hand made making each bead slightly different from the next. These amazing miniature works of art look and feel ancient in appearance and are overflowing with African character and soul. These particular beads are actually vintage.
Tembo is the Swahili word for elephant. I created this soulful African brass and bone charm bracelet and fun dragonfly earrings to coordinate with this beautiful necklace. I also added my Fossil Coral Necklace to this group as it coordinated so well!
