Green Mother of Pearl and Shell Mosaic Pendant Multi-Strand Necklace

Shimmering green mother of pearl nuggets mixed with natural hues of operculum shells and celery green chrysoprase make a beautiful accompaniment to this gorgeous mosaic shell pendant. The glamour of the iridescent mother of pearls and the super shiny silver contrast nicely with the primitive, earthy shells and rugged leather making a balanced piece of artisan jewelry perfect for a summer at the beach.

This dramatic, 2 ½ inch pendant is made of tiles of brownlip shell that are formed into a mosaic pattern atop a black base, all polished smooth. The natural iridescence of the shell glistens in the sunlight, adding depth and movement to this necklace. Due to the handmade nature of the pendant, color and size may vary slightly.

The vibrant green nuggets are dyed mother of pearl shells that come from the pearl oyster which is found in the warm, tropical Asian seas. Mother of pearl is the iridescent coating on the inside of the shells and the same substance that creates pearls. When a shell gets irritated, it coats itself with nacre (the same material as its lining) and after layers and layers form, a pearl is produced. That is why this lining, or nacre, is called the Mother of Pearl.

One strand of polished operculum shells and one of natural lemon chrysoprase beads make up the other two strands of the necklace. The three strands complement each other in color and style while at the same time maintaining a necessary contrast that preserves their individuality. Each side of the neckpiece culminates in a series of pure silver-coated terra cotta beads and an earthy ring of amber horn. It closes with a giant brass clasp and can be adjusted with the four inches of attached chain.
