Ethnic African Brass and Spiral Pendant Tribal Choker Necklace

$200.00

Nigerian Collar:

Bold and simple, this distinct African-style collar statement necklace will make you feel like you are donning an ancient artifact. The primitive nature of the Nigerian brass rings with all of their imperfections and inconsistencies have an authentic, earthy appeal that is nicely balanced by the modern geometry of the Grecian spiral pendants. Antique brass hues combine with antique pewter and natural leather to create a subtle yet striking ethnic neckpiece that is both powerful and beautiful.

The unusual brass rings are a mixture of both ancient and newly made designs, currently handmade by people from the Gongola State of Nigeria. Each ring is designed individually with definite range in size and shape among them. These rings are made of solid brass and all together give weight to the necklace, making it a powerful piece of handcrafted artisan jewelry.

Spirals have been used throughout history in many cultures to symbolize different things, often permanence, stability, and infinity. These particular pendants are created by a traditional Greek method in which the shapes are cast in a base metal zamak, finished with pure silver, and then recast with a patina. This finishing is what we commonly know as pewter.

Strung with leather, this collar has substantial strength to support the weight of the brass rings and spiral pendants and closes accordingly with a heavy brass toggle and ring clasp. This necklace is meant to rest on the collar bone and can be adjusted to fit your neck size. It is a very versatile piece that can be worn both casually and more exotically and is exclusive to neither men nor women. A necklace achieving a rare and simple perfection, this artisan collar will be a welcome addition to any jewelry collection.
