Angels of the Orient:
Earthy colors and exotic textures are fused together to create this single harmonious and elegant statement necklace design filled with China soul. Two giant cylinders of antique bone carved with beautiful dragons are the focus of this spectacular neckpiece. Bright red coral discs and Chinese carved bone rounds frame the dragon carvings adding contrast in both color and form. Simple silver beads add a bit of a contemporary element to this otherwise cultural and ancient looking piece of handcrafted artisan jewelry.
In China and other Eastern cultures, dragons are a symbol of good fortune, prosperity, wisdom, and greatness, always bringing goodness and blessings. Dragons are guardians that are loved and worshipped as angels are in the West. The bone in this necklace was all hand-carved in China and the dragon pictured is a Chinese dragon. However, many Eastern countries regard dragons with the same respect as China, and the dragons differ from one culture to the next. For example, Chinese dragons have 5 toes while those from Japan have 3 and Korean ones have 4.
The silver beads at the ends of the necklace are actually terra cotta beads from Greece. These beads are hand-formed from special volcanic clays, kiln-fired, coated with copper and kiln-fired a second time, and then coated with 100% pure silver. This classic neck collar closes with a unique pewter S-hook clasp and maple wood ring. A unique chain of bone, silver and brass is attached to adjust the length of the necklace from 16 to 20" in length.
