Exotic and soulful, this awesome necklace is primarily
composed of natural mustard color wood beads and a giant Chinese turquoise
donut pendant. Long and dramatic, this original handmade necklace will add soul
and flavor to anything you wear. Natural
browns and yellows of the nangka wood beads make a wonderful contrast to the
heavily matrixed blue and black turquoise stone, with a single African brass
bead and natural leather cord making a harmonious transition between the light
and dark tones of the piece.
The nangka wood beads are handcarved from the nangka, or
jackfruit tree found in the Philippines.
Although mostly mustard in color, these beads have a nice natural wood gradient
and texture that makes the color tones vary from bead to bead. This color variation
and unpredictability adds to the rugged, almost primitive appeal of the
necklace.
The Chinese turquoise donut is hand cut and carved in the Hubei province in China, where the turquoise is known
for its dark spider web-like matrixing. There is a great variation in color
from this dark colored stone to a lighter blue and even green, so no two of
these oversize donuts will be the same.
Completely unique and exotic, the woven brass bead is made
in a village near Kumasi, Ghana. These amazingly intricate
and soulful beads are made, one by one, by weaving wax "wires" into a
form, investing them in clay, burning out the wax and pouring molten brass into
the mold. Each mold is hand made making each bead slightly different from the
next. Although these appear to be ancient beads, they are actually newly made
in Ghana.
This magnificent necklace closes with an original terra
cotta toggle style clasp and is 32 inches in length. You can slip it right over
your head or double it up and make it a chunky two strand piece. It looks great
either way! This fun, versatile and naturally elegant piece will become a
favorite in any jewelry collection.
