Carnelian Agate and Ethiopian Silver Artisan Necklace

A giant Ethiopian silver metal globe and gorgeous carnelian agate rounds are stunningly displayed in this magnificent neckpiece. Each immaculate carnelian bead is framed on either side by a series of silver beads further enhancing the individual beauty of the wonderful cut and polished gemstones. The necklace ends elegantly taper off with cylindrical Ethiopian silver metal beads and dramatic Bali silver cones. Brass rings add a nice contrast to the carnelian-silver hues comprising the entity of this necklace. This magnificent necklace is truly an original piece of handcrafted artisan jewelry.

Imported directly from Ethiopia, the amazing silver focal bead averages 30mm in diameter. These beads are actually silver-plated copper and are individually handmade in Ethiopia, each one being a spectacular and unique piece of artwork. They are traditionally worn as the centerpiece of a simple glass beaded necklace or one comprised of copal amber. Also from Ethiopia, the wire-wrapped silver metal cylinders are handmade, primarily made of nickel.

Carnelian is an agate and is generally the name given for the fiery red hue of the gemstone that can be seen in many of these beads, particularly the one on the bottom right. Technically this gemstone is natural agate as the two terms are often used interchangeably to describe the same stone. Agate is naturally striped and has very defined patterns and lines with a variation of colors including red, orange, butterscotch, cream, and white. Each bead will vary as will each necklace, some being more carnelian in nature and some more a mix of the natural agate hues, like the one shown.

Handmade in Indonesia, stunningly detailed Bali sterling silver cones add an ornate richness to the piece. They are oxidized giving them a beautiful antiqued appearance. Each one of these magnificent components is individually created so there will be slight variations in the size and style. Intricately detailed Bali silver spacers are used throughout the necklace as well to balance the cones and make a more unified piece of jewelry.

Abyssinia was the former name of Ethiopia used before the 20th century and seems a fitting name for this designer neckpiece that has such a definite ancient and exotic style. This artisan necklace can be adjusted from 16 to 20 inches using the sterling silver lobster clasp and attached chain.

Although not labeled one-of-a-kind, due to the nature of the gemstones and the handmade individuality of the Ethiopian silver beads and Bali cones, no two pieces will be the same.
