This exotic and soulful bracelet is made primarily of wood. The large mustard beads are made in the Philippines from the Nangka wood, or jackfruit tree. The unique toggle clasp uses a maple wood ring and an exotic recycled wood bead made from a variety of woods including mulga, pixie bush, gimlet, boree, jarrah, gidgee, and sandalwood, all found on the forest floor. The small ivory beads are antiqued bone and the bracelet is strung on Greek leather cord.
The cross is newly made in Ethiopia, most likely using the lost wax method. The desired pattern is first hand-shaped into wax. Once the wax pattern has hardened, it is covered with clay and then baked. This hardens the clay and melts the wax, leaving room to pour in molten brass. Once the brass has cooled and hardened, the clay is removed to reveal the brass figure. Each one of these crosses is created by this labor intensive lost wax method, so each one is unique.
