The fiery oranges and yellows of this unique jade stone enhanced by the rustic African brass beads and rings make for an intense and captivating piece of jewelry. This limited edition designer bracelet was designed to accompany the necklace of the same name that features a gorgeous antiqued bone Celtic cross pendant, thus the name Celtic Sun. Earthy hues, old brass and bone color terra cotta give this necklace an ancient feel and an intriguing primitive ruggedness. The shiny brass rings and ornate vermeil beads give the bracelet a touch of modernity, adding a subtle but distinct elegance.
Jade has been an important stone to many cultures, particularly the Mayan civilization where it was prized more highly than gold and China, where it is considered to bring good luck. Jade is most often thought of as being green; however, there are many varieties ranging from white to black, with the jade in this bracelet being called "old jade." I am not sure if this jade is, in fact, old or if it is just termed that. Upon doing some research, I was unable to find any jade like this other than ancient statues and carvings. At any rate, I do know it is rare as I have not been able to find any similar beads anywhere and that is why this piece is limited.
The woven brass beads are made in a village near Kumasi, Ghana. They are made, one by one, by weaving wax "wires" into a form, investing them in clay, burning out the wax and pouring molten brass into the mold. Each mold is hand made making each bead slightly different from the next. Although these appear to be ancient beads, they are actually newly made in Ghana. The brass rings are a mixture of newly made and old rings, coming from the African states of Nigeria and Cameroon.
